The Quadrem electronic marketplace is a key component of Rio Tinto's e-procurement toolset. Purchasing the goods and services needed to support Rio Tinto Group operations currently requires hundreds of thousands of manual transactions to be processed annually – a burden that is currently shared by Rio Tinto and its suppliers. Rio Tinto is committed to the digitisation and automation of procurement processes and documents flows with a view to lowering costs and improving our ability to order, receive, and pay for goods and services. Suppliers that participate in electronic trading with Rio Tinto can share similar benefits.

On an electronic sourcing tool:

Electronic sourcing tools are essential to the way that we source goods and services within the Rio Tinto Group. Reverse auctions and electronic requests for quotation expedite the process of sourcing significantly, both for our internal companies and for our suppliers, thereby reducing the cost of going to market. The processes also increase the transparency of going to market – providing benefits to us and our suppliers. We are committed to using electronic tools to competitively source all of the Group’s requirements. We intend to use this tool to its fullest potential in all of our work.
